This afternoon it was reported death of Luis Cordero Barrera, one of the founding members of the Independent Democratic Union (UDI) party. The news was confirmed by his close circle.
Current president of the San Sebastian University (USS) and close friend of characters like Jaime Guzmán, Sebastián Piñera, Andrés Chadwick and Pablo LongueiraCordero was 72 years old at the time of his death.
During the last few years, he was going through cancer that worsened at the beginning of 2024, which is why he was hospitalized in the Clinic of the University of Los Andes.
His history as a leader began in 1983, when he became one of the main architects of the UDI along with Guzmán, one of the blocks that emerged under the leadership of the dictator Augusto Pinochet in the midst of a civil-military dictatorship.
However, he ended up resigning from the party after stating that it had lost the objectives for which it was created. That is, a “popular party” and “Christian inspiration.” Even so, his influence remained latent.
