Fire breaks out in an apartment building in Miami; man found shot outside

MIAMI – A fire broke out Monday morning in a four-story apartment building in the city of Miami, and a man was found shot right outside, authorities confirmed.

Sky 10 was over the building, located at 431 Northwest 3rd St., around 9 a.m. as heavy smoke was coming from the building.

City of Miami Fire Lieutenant Pete Sanchez confirmed there were “multiple patients.”

According to first responders, the call came around 8:15 a.m. like an explosion and there are many elderly people living in the apartment building.

When crews arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the abdomen outside the building.

Police said it is unclear if the shooting and fire are related.

According to authorities, some residents were rescued from their balconies while others were evacuated by land.

Due to the magnitude of the fire, fire rescue teams have switched to a “defensive” attack, as the fire is too dangerous to fight from the inside.

At this time, teams hope everyone makes it out safely.

Two firefighters were taken to a hospital due to heat exhaustion. Both are stable.

No further details were immediately released.
