After the removal of subsidies, the electricity bills will arrive with increases of up to 228% compared to April and those of gas up to 700% compared to the June-July 2023 two-month periodaccording to calculations from a report released by the opposition.

In the case of electric energy, for an Edenor user in the Middle Income segment (N3) with a consumption of 200 kwh, they will go from paying $5,565 to $13,226 (+137.66), while those who spend 350 kwh will pay a rate of $26,661 from the $8,126 they paid in April (+228.46), estimated the figures prepared by the Frente Renovador.

Low Income users (N2) who paid a bill of $5,341 in April for a consumption of 200 kwh will now pay $10,279 (+92.45%). Those who consume 350 kwh will receive an increase of 111.72%, going from paying $7,734 to $16,376.

Edenor tariff table (Frente Renovador)

High Income users (N1) will be the ones who will receive the smallest increase on their bills. For example, an Edenor customer who consumes 200 kwh will receive a bill for $23,543 compared to the $19,512 they paid in April (+20.65). If 350 kwh are consumed, the increase is 21.68% and the total amount of the rate amounts to $39,587.

On the other hand Julian Rojoan energy economist, told Infobae that these increases, however large they may be, still leave a long way to go to cover the costs of services. The N1, which are households without subsidies, in addition to industries and businesses – also not subsidized – will cover 80% of the cost of electricity with their payments. The remaining 20% is covered by the state through subsidies. But for low-income households the coverage is 22%. The remaining 78% are subsidies. And for N3 middle-income households, coverage is 35%. The remaining 65% are subsidies.

Regarding gas, and compared to the June-July 2023 two-month period, according to the Frente Renovador, a R1 (107 m3) medium-income household (N3) will go from paying $4,405 to $18,409, which means an increase of 418% . R2 homes (154 m3) will begin to pay a rate of $37,261 compared to the $7,166 they paid last year (+520%).

Low-income households (N2) with R1 consumption will receive a rate with a 448% increase, going from paying $3,662 in 2023 to $16,397 this year. R2 users will pay their bills with a 707% increase when they start paying $35,188 compared to $4,979.

Gas rate table (Frente Renovador)

As with electricity rates, the increases are somewhat smaller in high-income households (N1), whose R1 users will pay $30,707 from the previous $7,557 (+408%). In the case of R2, the bills will arrive with increases of 477% and an amount of $49,932, while in the June-July 2023 two-month period these same households paid $10,470.

Given the strong increases in the lowest income segments, there is still the possibility of accessing subsidies for those who need them, but with limits.

Users who receive income below $2,898,553 per month (3.5 basic baskets), among other exclusion criteria, still have the possibility of requesting subsidies for the services of light and of gas natural through networks through Registry of Access to Energy Subsidies (RASE).
