An agreement for more than $42 billion was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), with the aim of strengthening agroecological production processes in the Colombian Amazon.

The international cooperation project will focus on promoting the implementation of silvopastoral and agroforestry systems.

The strategic lines of this agreement include the implementation of agroforestry and silvopastoral systems in the Amazon, as well as the promotion of the use of bioinputs and peasant promotions, with the active participation of rural communities.

The project will be developed in the departments of Caquetá, Guaviare, Putumayo, Guainía, Vaupés and Amazonas. It is expected to intervene with agroforestry systems for the use of non-timber Amazonian fruits from the forest, offering a sustainable alternative for local communities.

This initiative is aligned with the National Development Plan ‘Colombia, and seeks to transform traditional activities into sustainable land uses.
