This Tuesday, June 11, an explosion due to a gas leak was recorded in central Colombia, resulting in two deaths, fifteen injuries and multiple damage to homes.

The incident occurred when a leak of propane gas stored in a vehicle exploded in Pereira, capital of the department of Risaralda (center), according to the EFE news agency.

The situation happened precisely in the early morning hours due to improper manipulation of two propane gas tanks that were inside a vehicle.

The director of the Pereira fire department, Juan Camilo Ballesteros Sánchez explained that “due to improper manipulation, one of the valves burst and generated the escape of this gas (…) which, when any heat zone was found, immediately generated the explosion.”

There are exactly 19 homes damaged, 7 completely destroyed and fourteen families affected.
