History of Prime Day

It appeared on July 15, 2015 as a way to celebrate Prime members on Amazon’s 20th birthday.

It lasted 24 hours and covered nine countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada and Austria.

Customers bought more items than in Black Friday 2014, then the firm’s largest electronic festival to date.

More than 34.4 million items were ordered in Prime-eligible countries, and 398 items were ordered per second.

In contrast, the same event last year lasted two days and shoppers snapped up more than 375 million items worldwide.

The figure meant more than $2.5 billion in millions of offers throughout the Amazon store.
