Bases Law: police repressed national deputies with pepper spray

In the midst of the Senate’s treatment of the Bases Law, which already has half a sanction from the Chamber of Deputies, at the door of Congress tension is growing between the police and the protesters. During the mobilization, the police and the Gendarmerie began to repress after 3 p.m. with two water cannon trucks and rubber bullets. Earlier they had fired pepper spray at protesters, journalists and several national deputies, including Carlos Castagneto, Eduardo Valdés, Luis Basterra, Juan Manuel Pedrini and Leopoldo Moreau.

As the El Destape cameras were able to document, the Police began to repress the protesters, in a joint effort between the national and Buenos Aires forces in an alleged attempt to clear the streets above Congress.

The attacked Unión por la Patria deputies hold President Javier Milei and the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, directly responsible. Cecilia Moreau, current legislator and former head of the Lower House, said that several colleagues were taken to the Santa Lucía hospital. UP sources clarified that there are “five UP deputies” who were taken to the Buenos Aires hospital.

Shortly after, from inside the Senate session, Senator Anabel Fernández Sagasti denounced the repression in the streets and assured that “there are three deputies interned.”
