Christian Pulisic scored in the 26th minute, nine after Rodrygo had opened the scoring, and the United States signed a 1-1 draw against Brazil yesterday, in what was the last warm-up match for both teams ahead of the Copa América.

The US team recovered from the 5-1 beating that Colombia inflicted on them the previous weekend. In the process, they ended their 11-game losing streak against the Brazilians by equalizing the give-and-take match.

“We’ve obviously improved our performance quite a bit,” goalkeeper Matt Turner said. “We had really hit adversity and were able to bounce back a few days later. And in a tournament that is very important, because not all the results and decisions are going to be favorable, and you have to be able to leave that behind.”

Now, the Americans have accumulated one win, Wednesday’s draw, and 18 losses against Brazil, whom they only defeated in the 1998 Gold Cup semifinal.

The United States, one of the six invited to the Copa América, opens its participation on June 23 against Bolivia, before facing Panama and Uruguay. Brazil, which has not been crowned in the top South American competition since 2007, will clash in the group stage against Costa Rica, Paraguay and Colombia.

The match attracted 60,016 spectators, mostly Brazilian fans, to the Camping World Stadium. This is the largest attendance for a US National Team match in Florida.

Brazil took the lead when Turner sent a long punt toward Yunus Musah. Bruno Guimaraes intercepted with a header that fed Raphinha, who served diagonally towards Rodrygo to score his sixth goal for the National Team with a shot that beat the goalkeeper’s attempt.

Pulisic was brought down by João Gomes on the edge of the area and scored from a free kick. The ball penetrated the barrier and beat goalkeeper Allison’s shot.

The Milan attacker reached 29 goals in 68 international appearances with his National Team.
