Almost two weeks after the National Electoral Institute (INE) recognized the victory of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo in the 2024 presidential election, Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz, candidate of the ‘Fuerza y Corazón por México’ alliance, announced the way in which her campaign team and the national leaders of the PRI, PAN and PRD reacted to the results. When she respected her, she highlighted that the blue and white leader, Marko Cortes Mendoza, ‘shout’ for having congratulated the now virtual president-elect of Mexico.
In interview with journalist Carlos Loret de Mola for LatinusGálvez Ruiz reported that, after calling the former head of Government of Mexico City by phone to recognize her victory, Cortés became angry and complained to her “too loud”.
“I don’t know if men generally like to shout, but you can solve problems and talk without shouting. He said it was unworthy of me to congratulate Claudia because she had been a state election”he explained.
He noted that his reaction was so aggressive that he even intervened Juan Pardinasgeneral director of the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO) and member of the coalition.
The fact was confirmed hours before by the same leader of National Action (PAN)who, in an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva for Radio Formula, admitted that during the night of June 2 He complained to Xóchitl Gálvez for having made a decision without consulting the leaders of the coalition.
“We had agreed, together with the candidate and her campaign team, that when the results of the quick count were announced we would have to meet to jointly establish a position, which did not happen. When Xóchitl spoke that night to congratulate Claudia, the votes were still being counted in a good part of the country, and you cannot congratulate someone when you are facing a state election, that is unworthy”, he justified.
In the same meeting with Gómez Leyva, the former federal deputy explained that Gálvez’s congratulations to Sheinbaum was incongruous because the opposition was facing a state election. Along these lines, he accused the coalition ‘Let’s keep making history’ having broken all the rules.
“Of course I told him I didn’t share it., because you can’t congratulate someone who just stepped on you. You congratulate someone who beat you by hand, but not when they trample you, when they throw the entire Mexican State at you, when they defame you.
They completely broke the rules of the game and that’s why I told them clearly: no, National Action is not going to congratulateis going to challenge the State election, because it is our moral duty,” he added.
It should be noted that, according to Gálvez, Alejandro ‘Alito’ Moreno and Jesús Zambrano, leaders of the PRI and PRD, respectively, were present during the disagreement. However, both chose to remain silent in the face of Cortés’ reaction.
