Before starting a new adventure in Assassin’s Creedor at least in its most recent history when making the jump to the open world, there have been a couple of occasions in which it has given us allowed to choose the gender of our protagonist. Something that will not be entirely like that in Assassin’s Creed Shadowsbut yes we can choose one or the other, depending on our way of playing.
It already happened with the election of Kassandra and Alexios in Oddyseyor the genus of Eivor in Valhalla. And now Ubisoft reinvents itself with two main protagonists for this new adventure, which will take us to another huge map to explore feudal Japan. And despite the numerous advances here and there, with quite a lot of prominence in the conferences this past weekend, Ubisoft wanted to explain in detail how the mechanics work when choosing a character in their new title.
This is what he has done associate director Simon Lemay-Comtois in a recent interview with GamesRadar. Who, in a few words, has clarified that We can choose Yasuke or choose Naoe… And change from one to the other as many times as we want.

And although you can go with Yasuke, with Naoe you will go faster as you can move stealthily in the dark“.
The game is designed so that there are missions specially designed for a specific character. However, the choice between Yasuke or Naoe will always be ours.. It depends entirely on us and our style of play, or the immersion we want to have.
For example, in the extensive gameplay, we see these two possible scenarios. The first is how, in broad daylight, we must face a dozen enemies, where Yasuke is much more lethal. On the opposite side is the infiltration of a castle during the night, where Naoe is when he brings out all of his repertoire. But if we want to do everything the other way around, or always go with the same character, we can do it without any impediment. Only it will be more difficult for us or it will take longer, just that.
In this way, they eliminate in one fell swoop the doubts about the lore and who the real character is of history. In Assassin’s Creed Oddysey, the story is created for Kassandra, but we can play with Alexios and also enjoy it 200%. The case of Eivor is different, where we could even select that the Animus decide for us. Well literally neither of them are canonically official.
