Flamengo and Bahia regained the leadership of Brasileirao this Thursday, which Botafogo had provisionally reached on Tuesday, after beating Gremio de Porto Alegre and Fortaleza respectively at home, and tied at 17 points at the lead.

Below is the traffic light for the eighth day of the Brazilian league, which was played between Tuesday and Thursday, and which is the first without the internationals called up to play in the Copa América.

Flamengo, Bahia and Botafogo.

The top three finishers of the Brasileirao did not fail this day.

Botafogo had taken the lead on Tuesday, provisionally, after winning 1-0 in the Rio derby against Fluminense, with a goal from the Angolan Bastos in the second half.

Under pressure, Flamengo and Bahia did not fail either and regained first position. The flamenguistas beat Gremio 2-1 at home, with two beautiful goals from Luiz Araújo, one in each half.

Curiously, the ‘Fla’ attacker started the game on the bench, came on after half an hour in place of the injured Igor Jesús and ended up being the star of the match.

Edenílson, with a header, scored for the gaúchos in the last play. With the defeat, Gremio approaches the relegation zone, although it has two games less.

Bahia did not fail either and won the duel in the northeast of the country against Fortaleza (1-0), thanks to a header in the final stretch by Jean Lucas.

With the victory, the City Group team in Brazil, led by legendary goalkeeper Rogério Ceni, is equal on 17 points with Flamengo at the top, with one point more than Botafogo.

International and Sao Paulo.

Two of the greats drew goalless this Thursday at the Criciúma stadium and saw their aspirations to get closer to the leaders frustrated.

In a very close match, Argentine Luis Zubeldía’s Sao Paulo was better, but failed to overcome the Inter of another Argentine coach, Eduardo ‘Chacho’ Coudet.

The tie leaves the São Paulo team in fifth place but three points behind Flamengo and Botafogo, while Colorado falls to tenth place, with 11 points, and with two games less, loses the opportunity to depend on itself to become the leader.

Fluminense, Corinthians and Vasco da Gama.

Three giants of Brazilian football are going through a bad time and tied at 6 points, they have just one more unit than Criciúma and Atlético Goianiense, who are in relegation.

Fluminense, current champion of the Libertadores, suffered its fourth defeat in eight days on Tuesday, losing against Botafogo by the minimum, and has just one point more than Criciúma, the first team in relegation.

On Tuesday, Corinthians let a victory that was well underway at the home of Atlético Goianiense (2-2) slip away, after taking the lead with two goals from Yuri Alberto, and went on to its fourth matchday without a win.

Finally, Vasco da Gama still does not raise its head and after being beaten 6-1 on Sunday against Flamengo, it lost 2-0 this Thursday against Palmeiras, with goals from Uruguayan full-back Joaquín Píquerez and Rony. It was the second defeat for Portuguese coach Álvaro Pacheco since his arrival at the Rio club.
