Taiwan: new incursion by China with eight planes and eight warships

China has sent eight planes and eight warships to the Taiwan Strait in the last 24 hours. This was announced by the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense on day X, specifying that three planes entered the air defense identification zone (Adiz) of the island. Since the beginning of the month, China has sent 140 aircraft and 117 warships near Taiwan. Tensions between the two sides of the Strait have intensified especially after the inauguration of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te, accused by China of having surpassed his predecessors “on the path to independence.”

In response to Lai’s inauguration speech on May 20, the Chinese Communist Party organized two days of military exercises around the island on May 23 and 24, calling them “punishment” for “secessionists” and a warning. for “external forces” that interfere with the file. This is above all the United States, which after Lai took office sent two delegations to Taiwan to renew support for the new administration in the context of tensions with Beijing. China also protested Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s congratulations to Lai on the eve of his inauguration, accusing him of having “sent a profoundly wrong signal to separatist forces.”
