Madrid, June 15 (EFE).- A Spanish man of Moroccan origin and a 10-year-old girl are among the four people who died in the explosion in a residential building in the Belgian city of Hoboken, very close to Antwerp.

Diplomatic sources have confirmed that it is a Spaniard of Moroccan origin and a minor born in Ceuta and of Moroccan parents, although there is no family connection between these two victims.

The consulate has been in contact with the families to inform them of the event and offer any necessary assistance, according to the aforementioned sources.

The explosion took place last Thursday in Hoboken and destroyed the upper part of the building, causing injuries to six other people, three seriously and three slightly.

Belgian authorities are investigating the causes of the explosion and are considering the possibility that it was due to a gas leak.

For its part, the Government of Ceuta has reported in a statement that, as a result of the explosion, the mother of the minor, who is a native of Morocco, is among the deceased. EFE
