Xiamen, June 15 (Xinhua) – China has the resolve, confidence and ability to crush separatist attempts at “Taiwan independence” in any form, senior Chinese official Wang Huning said Saturday.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks while delivering a speech at the main conference of the 16th Cross-Strait Forum. , held in the city of Xiamen, southeast China’s Fujian province.

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, pointed out the direction for the development of relations, peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait in a speech in April, Wang said.

The senior official called on people on both sides to shoulder their historical and national responsibilities, firmly oppose “Taiwan independence” separatism and foreign interference, firmly safeguard the common homeland of the Chinese nation, promote peace and tranquility across the Strait and work together to get relations back on the right track.

Separatists seeking “Taiwan independence” undermine cross-Strait peace and stability, harm the interests and well-being of people in Taiwan, and endanger national sovereignty and territorial integrity, Wang said, noting that such actions will push Taiwan to the brink of war and create hardship for the people on the island.

Wang pledged that the mainland will continue to look after the interests and improve the well-being of Taiwanese people, while continuing to welcome more Taiwanese people to participate in cross-Strait exchange, cooperation and integrated development. .

He also expressed the hope that young people from both sides of the Strait will engage in more exchanges and interactions, develop mutual understanding and work together to achieve the revitalization of the Chinese nation.

Sean Lien, vice chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang Party (KMT), said the KMT has always promoted cross-Strait exchange and cooperation, on the common political basis of adhering to the 1992 Consensus and opposing “Taiwan independence.” .

The people on both sides of the Strait, all of them Chinese, must face the challenges together and strive for peace and prosperity for the future generations of the Chinese nation.

Before the conference, Wang met with guests from Taiwan attending the forum.
