In front of thousands of supporters at a convention center in West Palm Beach (Florida)the Republican candidate promised to further cut the corporate tax rate he reduced while president, while also offering tax relief to the middle class.

Trump, who is immersed in a tight rematch race with President Joe Biden, a Democrat, did not give concrete details. Trump slashed the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% and implemented other tax breaks that expire next year.

“I want to make them permanent, and then I’m going to cut taxes even more,” Trump said, without offering a plan to offset the potential drop in revenue. “I want to lower them even more, and especially for middle-income people.”

Trump, who made a hardline stance on immigration a centerpiece of his administration and He has promised extensive repression if he is re-electedagain attacked Biden’s efforts to stem the flow of immigrants crossing illegally into the United States.

Trump highlighted immigration detentions

trump highlighted the recent arrests of eight people from Tajikistan in New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia who, according to a person familiar with the investigation, had alleged ties to the extremist group ISIS.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said people had been detained in coordination with the Joint Task Forces FBI Terrorism Counter and were being held on immigration charges, although the agency did not confirm the possible link to ISIS.

“Our country has never been in danger like it is now,” Trump said, claiming without evidence that thousands of terrorists were entering the United States. “Our country is going to pay a very high price for many, many years”he added.

Biden has toughened its approach to immigration as it emerged as a major political vulnerability for him. Earlier this month he established a broad asylum ban on immigrants who illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border.

Congressional Republicans earlier this year rejected a bipartisan initiative to tighten immigration rules after Trump told them not to pass it and handed Biden a political victory.
