KYIV.- The proposal offered by the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, to begin peace negotiations with Ukraine is actually an “ultimatum,” declared this Friday the leader of the Ukrainian regime, Vladimir Zelensky, in an interview with Sky TG24.
“What can I say? “These messages are ultimatums, they are no different from other ultimatums he has made before,” she stated. «He wants us to give him a part of our occupied territories, but he also wants the unoccupied ones. He talks about regions of our country, and he won’t stop. “There will not be a frozen conflict,” he added.
The Russian leader announced this Friday the conditions that “will truly allow the war in Ukraine to end,” stressing that as soon as kyiv accepts them, Moscow will be willing to negotiate immediately, without delay. He stressed that if the West and kyiv again reject Moscow’s “concrete and real peace” proposal, the bloodshed will ultimately be their responsibility.
Among the proposed conditions are: “neutrality, non-alignment, denuclearization of Ukraine, as well as its demilitarization and denazification”; the recognition of new territorial realities, that is, Crimea, Sevastopol, the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, the Zaporozhye and Kherson provinces must be recognized as subjects of Russia; as well as the cancellation of all Western sanctions.
For their part, both Washington and NATO have also previously revealed their position on the matter. Thus, the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd J. Austin, said that the Russian leader “is not in a position” to dictate to kyiv the conditions for the cessation of hostilities.
According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the proposal expressed by Putin would imply “achieving his war objectives.”
