Rotman, a member of the Givati ​​brigade who was promoted from corporal to sergeant after his death according to the military statement, was one of six soldiers who were injured when a bomb exploded in a building that was full of explosives last week.

The now sergeant became the fifth fatality as a result of this incident and the ninth this Saturday, after eight soldiers lost their lives in an ambush by the al-Qasam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, also in Rafah.

Among the eight deceased was Captain Wassem Mahmoud (23 years old), deputy commander of the 601st Engineering Battalion of the Israeli Army, while the names of the rest of the armored crew have not yet been revealed, although their families have been informed of what happened. , according to a military statement.

“On the morning of Arafah Day (an important date in the Muslim calendar), our fighters carried out a complex ambush against enemy vehicles advancing through the Saudi neighborhood of Tal al Sultan, west of Rafah,” the al Qasam Brigades announced this morning. .

Army spokesman Daniel Hagari declared this Saturday in a hearing that the incident was “probably” caused by an explosive device placed near the armored vehicle or an anti-tank missile fired at it.

Since Israel launched its ground operation against Gaza, 308 soldiers have been killed and at least another 1,500 have been wounded, according to the Army itself. In total, there are more than 620 dead if the Hamas attack on October 7 is taken into account. EFE
