Swiss surprised Hungary in the debut and beat them 3-1 at the Rhein Energie stadium, in Cologne, for the first date in Group A of the Euro 2024, in the second match of the competition after Germany’s opening 5-1 victory over Scotland – they are in the same zone. The goals were from Duah, Aebischer and Embolo for Switzerland and Varga scored for Hungary.

In his debut in a major tournament as Murat Yakin’s coach, it was Switzerland that showed the most ambition and earned the consideration of a contender for qualification. Yakin’s idea worked out as he expected.
