Wilmer Valderrama won’t be returning for Season 2 of That ’90s Show despite being a recurring character on the debut season of the ’70s Show spinoff, but he has good reason.

“There is no time!” he told People in an interview published Saturday. “We broadcast 20 episodes per season [on ‘NCIS’]but at the same time it’s child’s work.’

The children in question are Callie Haverda, Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Rayne Doe, Sam Morelos and Maxwell Ace Donovan (original series stars Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp reprise their roles).

“It’s their show now and I think it’s important that we come and honor their show and have fun with the legacy of what we’ve done,” Valderrama said. “Right now, it’s really about seeing them take control.”

The actor also thanked the show’s creators, Mark Brazile, Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner, for creating “a character that allowed me to fly in a way I never thought was creatively possible.”

Valderrama revealed that the trio asked him to weigh in on where Fez would be in the 1990s. “They asked me, ‘Oh, what do you think Fez would be doing now if it were the ’90s?” And I said it was going to be Paul Mitchell from Wisconsin,” the actor said.

The actor also admitted that there was a major obstacle to recovering the character: his outstanding voice, something he had not tried since he was 26 years old. voice,” he recalled. “I’ve never done that before, you know? And when I had to make the board, I thought, ‘Okay, here we go.’ But it turned out that doing it again was ‘like riding a bicycle’. ‘.

Finally, Valderrama will be joined by former That ’70 Show co-stars Laura Prepon, Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Tommy Chong and Don Stark in various capacities when Season 1 of the spinoff airs in January 2023. below.

“That ’90s Show” returns June 27 on Netflix.
