Electricity and gas rates: what income do you have to have to request subsidies in June and how to process them

These maximums vary depending on the cost of the basic basket of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec).

Basic Basket Update

In May, the basic basket increased 2.8% and stood at $851,350.87. This implies that those who lost subsidies can recover them or move to a category where they receive assistance during June.

Subsidy Categories and Requirements

  • Level 2 (Lower income segment):
    • Net income less than $851,350.87 (1 total basic basket for a type 2 household according to INDEC).
    • Own up to 1 property.
    • Do not own 1 vehicle less than 3 years old.
  • Level 3 (Middle Income Segment):
    • Total monthly income between $851,350.87 and $2,979,728.50 (between 1 and 3.5 basic baskets for a type 2 household according to INDEC).
    • Own up to 2 properties.
    • Own up to 1 vehicle less than 3 years old.

Those with income above $2,979,728.50 will not be able to apply for subsidies on electricity and gas rates.

Changes in Electricity Rates

With the gradual reduction of state assistance applied by the Ministry of Energy, middle-income households (N3) see their subsidized consumption reduced from 400 to 250 kWh per month. Those with low incomes (N2) have a subsidized consumption limit of 350 kWh per month. If these limits are exceeded, the full energy price will be paid. The bills in much of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) will be between $12,500 and $30,000 per month.

Bonuses for Natural Gas

The bonuses for low- and middle-income users on the price of gas consumed are:

  • 55% for N3 (middle income).
  • 64% for N2 (low income).

How to Apply for Subsidies

To receive subsidies for electricity and gas, it is necessary to register with the RASE. Registration is mandatory to maintain the benefit.

Necessary documentation:

  • Meter number and the Customer/Service/Account/Contract or NIS number of the electricity and natural gas bill per network.
  • DNI.
  • CUIL number of each household member over 18 years of age.
  • Pocket income of each household member over 18 years of age.
  • An e-mail address.

Registration process:

  1. Gather the required documentation.
  2. Go to www.argentina.gob.ar/subsidios.
