‘The PRD no longer exists,’ admits Jesús Zambrano and blames the opposition for lack of strategy – El Financiero

“The PRD that we built 35 years ago no longer exists as such”This was recognized this Saturday by the leader of the ‘Aztec Sun’ party, Jesús Zambrano, in the face of the imminent loss of his registration following the election results of June 2.

“I cannot hide my sadness, we have come this far to close a cycle and I hope that with all this political capital that we accumulate and of which we contribute to being a part, we have to start a new cycle,” said Zambrano during a meeting with leaders of the party and the New Left current.

He added that now the obligation is to “reinvent ourselves” and assured that “the enthusiasm and conviction to continue fighting for a democracy that is today threatened” is still alive.

Zambrano took the opportunity to point out the multiple errors that were committed within the opposition coalition to Morena and her allies; Furthermore, he criticized that there was never a campaign strategy discussed and agreed upon by all party leaders.

The social majority rejected Xóchitl and the PRI-PAN-PRD coalition. She didn’t trust us. We didn’t earn it… There was never a campaign strategy discussed and agreed upon by everyone: with the candidate, the allied parties and the representation of civil society. The war room operated without coordination with the party leadership,” he indicated.

Likewise, he pointed out that, despite the important financial resources that were allocated to the presidential campaign, the majority of the candidates did not incorporate the image of Xóchitl Gálvez, unlike what happened with the now virtual president-elect of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum. .

“It was never clear what Xóchitl’s profile was, what she represented, what she offered, that is, without undermining her capacity and her invaluable and extraordinary efforts as a female candidate,” he noted.

Why did the PRD lose its registration at the national level?

After the calculations carried out by the National Electoral Institute (INE)On June 10, the electoral body notified the PRD of the beginning of a ‘prevention phase’, due to the fact that it was unable to reach the 3 percent of the votes that the Constitution requires to maintain its registration as a party.

According to the General Law of Political Parties, a front could lose its registration if it does not reach 3 percent of direct votes in at least one of the three federal elections, that is, the Presidency, deputies and senators.

At the cut-off on June 10, the votes for the PRD were in the 2.43 percent in district countsso it no longer has enough support to maintain its registration at the national level.

However, at the local level, electoral preferences will allow him to retain his position in Baja California Sur, Guerrero, State of Mexico, Michoacán, Sonora and Tabasco.

It is worth remembering that the PRD asked the INE for opening of all electoral packages to search for missing votes; However, the General Council rejected their request, so now the party will have to appeal to the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF).

The PRD was founded in 1989 with the union of several left-wing parties, such as the Mexican Socialist Party, the Mexican Workers Party, the Unified Socialist Party for Mexico, and the Popular Revolutionary Party.

Among its ranks and leaders, notable figures such as the former presidential candidate, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, the current president of the country, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), as well as Marcelo Ebrard, Ricardo Monreal, Ifigenia Martínez and Miguel Ángel Mancera.
