What is Dr Death about? The series is available on Universal+

Dr. Death, returned to the screen with his second season which tells a shocking story based on a true event that impacted the world. The series and its new chapters are available at Universal+.

The first season premiered in Peacock in July 2021 with a total of 8 episodes. in the series Joshua Jackson he played the neurosurgeon Christopher Duntsch, accused of mutilating and murdering numerous patients.

So after the positive reception by viewers, the production returned with a new cycle starring Mandy Moore and Edgar Ramírez. Like the first installment, the series is based on a real case.

The real story behind Dr. Death 2

Edgar Ramirez plays Paolo Macchiarini, also know as “The Miracle Man” who is an Italian surgeon and scientist known for his work in trachea transplants using artificial trachea grafts and stem cells. However, His career has been mired in controversy due to accusations of medical malpractice and scientific ethics.

Macchiarini rose to fame for performing the first trachea transplants with synthetic grafts coated with the patient’s own stem cells, which was initially considered a revolutionary advance in regenerative medicine.

However, several of his patients died due to postoperative complicationsand allegations emerged that he had falsified data in his research and carried out experimental procedures without sufficient evidence of safety and effectiveness.

In 2016, the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, where he worked, launched an investigation into his conduct, and he was ultimately fired. Since then, he has faced several investigations and lawsuits related to his medical practices.

This story is portrayed in the series, in fact the synopsis states: “When investigative journalist Benita Alexander approaches him to tell him a story, the line between personal and professional begins to blur, changing his life forever.”
