Former President Donald Trump, who is the main candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, has been making known what immigration policies he is considering for his second term.
Trump told Time magazine that he would aim to deport between 15 and 20 million people who he says make up the number of undocumented people in the United States.
“Dwight Eisenhower,” Trump said, “was very supportive of keeping illegal immigration out of our country. And he did a massive deportation of people. He did it for a long time. He became very competent at it.”
Additionally, Trump plans to reinstate large-scale raids to detain undocumented immigrants using local police and the National Guard, and would open new camps for undocumented people where they would wait to be expelled.
Stephen Miller, who was an advisor to Trump and was one of the architects of Trump’s first term immigration policies, stated in an interview with the New York Times that the army would build new camps, similar to other migrant facilities that have been erected. on the border.
In another interview with Time magazine, Trump said he plans to reinstate several policies from his first term such as the Remain in Mexico program and Title 42.
Trump would try to end birthright citizenship in the country for babies of parents who do not have legal permission.
