Tensions between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have been increasing in recent days, this time their disagreements are over racial issues and the future of the Supreme Court.. Meanwhile, both are preparing for what is anticipated to be one of the most important presidential debates in recent years.

This weekend, the 2024 presidential campaign has shifted its focus from the courts and trials of Trump and Biden’s son to mainstream political debates. Both candidates are placing particular emphasis on capturing the vote of the African-American population and the immigrant population, a traditionally Democratic power base in which Trump is trying to gain ground despite his lack of popularity and controversy on minority issues.

President Biden has been sharpening his speech against the convicted former president, this time at a fundraising event in Hollywood, he expressed concern about the possibility that Trump, if he wins a second term, could appoint more conservative judges from hard line for the Supreme Court. This scenario, according to Biden, represents one of the most alarming threats of a possible return of Trump to the White House, as it could further toughen policies against some minorities. Former President Barack Obama, who joined Biden at the event, criticized Republicans for supporting a candidate who has been “convicted on 34 charges.”

In the midst of a race that will solidify specific groups of voters, and in an effort to mobilize Latino and youth voters, Biden released a video in “Spanglish” where several “dreamers,” as they call migrants who settle in the United States, criticize Trump and praise the current president for his commitment to the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program. This program, started by Obama in 2012, allows young migrants to live and work legally in the United States. The “dreamers” in the video call Trump a coward for his attempts to end DACA and for his derogatory comments toward migrants.

Trump, despite being known for his anti-immigrant speech, has changed his strategy somewhat and recently launched the “Latin Americans for Trump” campaign in an attempt to attract the Latino vote. However, he has been harshly criticized after at a rally in Las Vegas, he was heard mockingly saying, “I don’t care about you, I just want your vote.”

During his term, Trump attempted to end the DACA migrant program, claiming it was unconstitutional. In contrast, Biden, since his arrival at the White House in January 2021, has urged Congress to find a lasting legislative solution for the “Dreamers.” Since the start of the DACA program, Citizenship and Immigration Services has approved more than 800,000 applications for migrants.

Meanwhile, the Biden and Trump campaigns continue to focus on swing states and groups of voters who could be their key players in the elections. The campaign began and has intensified its rhetoric among the candidates. While Trump returns to the game with his old slogan “Make America Great Again,” Biden seeks to solidify minorities as he attacks Trump for his radicalism.
