It’s time to put on the wig again. Hollow Knight: Silksong remains an enigma after the Nintendo Direct. A long-awaited conference that has trolled us again, despite rumors and alleged leaks of all kinds. Well, the Japanese giant’s conference is over, largely decaffeinated except for a few titles, and having fulfilled several of the surprises such as Metroid 4the Team Cherry title still did not appear.
The minutes passed, the ads came in a flurry and those that focused more on specific games like the new The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which has been one of the bombshells of this Nintendo Direct. But not a trace of Silksong. Nothing at all. And while all this was happening, many of us were convinced that we would see it at the end, and close in a big way: “The new Metroid? Fantastic! And now is when the real good comes… Ah, they’ve already said goodbye“, is what you may have also thought during those last minutes.
Five years have passed since it was announced, and after dozens of conferences have been held, it is still not the time. Everything pointed to it being the big surprise to come. Her big moment had arrived. It was the end of the meme and being able to take off the clown wig and nose. But finally the most realistic forecasts were fulfilled.
The worst thing is that now it is an almost empty summer. Except for a major surprise from the company, to generate hype outside of the Nintendo Direct. Well, what’s next on the horizon is Gamescom, which will take place from August 21 to 25. Perhaps not being the best framework for it. So we will have to continue waiting in this eternal agony, while one fair after another happens, and its different conferences, without news about the Hollow Knight: Silksong.
And partly it is good. The Team Cherry team knows perfectly well everything they generate without having to announce anything. They are a trend among numerous titles that have been announced. An eternal meme that is free advertising, even when you know perfectly well that today is not the chosen day. And the longer they extend the party, the bigger the bombshell will be on the day of the big announcement.
The counterpoint is that perhaps many will get tired of waiting. Let them get off this ship full of wigs waiting for the announcement of the silksong. But don’t let anyone fool you. As soon as it happens and we have a release date, all those who have decided to stop waiting out of boredom will be the first to return to the madness.
Because much was expected from this Nintendo Direct on June 18, 2024. But not all the signs in the world in the form of discounts or temporary free Hollow Knight, they have been of no use. An eternal game for the umpteenth trolling ahead of its launch. And yet, we are practically the same as that February 14, 2019. A lot has happened in the world since then, but there are things that never change.
