Pemex requests authorization to drill the Kathal-1EXP exploratory well in the shallow waters of Campeche, with an estimated cost of 136.5 million dollars.

The governing body of the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH)approved the authorization request presented by Pemex Exploración y Procción (PEP) to drill the Kathal-1EXP shallow water exploratory well.

The exploratory well in shallow waters Kathal-1EXP It is contemplated in the incremental scenario of the current exploration plan, corresponding to Assignment AE-0159-2M-CHALABIL, approved by the regulator through resolution CNH.42.05/2023 of September 28, 2023.

Kathal-1EXP is located in the territorial waters of the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of the state of Campeche.

The primary objective of the well is to discover hydrocarbons in Cretaceous and Upper Jurassic Kimmeridgian (JSK) targets.

The well will be drilled with a vertical directional trajectory, with an estimated total depth of 5,447 mvbmr.

The expected hydrocarbon is super light oil. The average prospective resources at risk are 3.9 MMbpce, with a probability of geological success of 18%, in the Cretaceous, and 6.7 MMbpce, with a probability of geological success of 25%, in the JSK.

As part of the preliminary completion program, Pemex planned to carry out a conventional production test at each of the planned geological targets.

The drilling and completion programs contemplate a total of 207 days: 138 days for drilling (from July 10 to November 24, 2024), and 69 days for completion (from November 25 to February 1, 2025).

The total estimated cost is 136.5 million dollars, of which 98.2 million will be allocated for drilling and 38.3 million for completion.
