The events were organized to establish efficient communication channels and boost the effectiveness of multinational cooperation with the purpose of combating transnational crime, as revealed by the MOJ, in a context in which fraud, money laundering, and problems in Corporate and national security confidentiality are on the rise.
Participants included lawyers, officials and legal experts from Taiwan, Canada, Estonia, Germany, the United States and the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation.
Taiwan: challenges and strategies to maintain its global competitiveness in 2024
As part of the series, the Taipei City Supreme Procuratorate Office hosted a symposium on national security. In his opening speech, Vice Minister of Justice Huang Shih-chieh stated that economic espionage and disinformation pose a great threat to economic, political and social stability, which is why a transnational cooperation mechanism is necessary in order to jointly address these challenges.
At another conference, in Nantou, central Taiwan, artificial intelligence, asset recovery and mutual legal assistance were discussed in depth. In his speech, Vice Minister of Justice Hsu Hsi-hsiang praised the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Law and added that Taiwan hopes to emulate it to achieve more complete and robust regulations.
The seminar series is expected to improve investigative capacity and evidence collection by strengthening the partnership between participating countries and organizations, the MOJ said.
