Madrid, June 20 (EFECOM).- Coxabengoa has been awarded the construction of phase 1 of what will be the largest desalination plant in Taiwan, with a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters per day, located in Tainan, in the south of the island.

The plant will be able to supply drinking water to one million people, as well as meet the water needs of the semiconductor industry, the company said Thursday.

Specifically, the project contemplates the execution and operation for 15 years of a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant.

The construction and start-up of the plant, which will employ 200 people at the time of greatest intensity of the process, will be carried out in two phases.

In the first phase, the capacity to supply 100,000 cubic meters of water per day will be reached and it will be prepared for the second phase, in which 200,000 cubic meters will be reached.

In addition to the award of the desalination plant in Taiwan, Coxabengoa has put into operation the largest reverse osmosis desalination plant in the world, located in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), with a production of almost one million m 3 /day that guarantees supply to approximately four and a half million people throughout the year.

Since the award of Abengoa’s assets by Grupo Cox in April 2023, Coxabengoa has reorganized the business and assets to transform the company into a global water and energy utility. Thus, the infrastructure areas and transmission lines have been integrated, along with the operation and maintenance area, to support the group’s main businesses. EFECOM
