Coxabengoa, a vertically integrated global water and energy utility, reinforces its global leadership position in the water desalination sector by winning the award for phase 1 of what will be the largest desalination plant in Taiwan, with a capacity of 200,000 meters cubic of water per day, located in Tainan, a city in the south of Taiwan.

With this capacity, the plant will be able to supply drinking water for a million peoplein a country with a great need for water for human consumption, as well as meet the water needs for the semiconductor industry on the island.

The project contemplates the execution and operation for 15 years of a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant for the Southern Region Water Resources BranchWater Resources Agency, Ministry of economic Affairs (Taiwan), as final client.

The construction and start-up of the plant, which will employ 200 people at the moment of greatest intensity of the process, will be carried out in two phases. In phase 1, the capacity to supply 100,000 cubic meters of water per day will be reached and it will be prepared for the second phase in which 200,000 cubic meters will be reached.

In addition to the awarding of the desalination plant in Taiwan, it is worth noting that Coxabengoa has put into operation one of the great milestones in the sector. Is about Taweelah, the largest reverse osmosis desalination plant in the world, located in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates). With a production of almost one million m3/dayTaweelah guarantees the supply to four and a half million people approximately throughout the year.

Taweelah is the first large-scale plant in the emirate that combines the production of drinking water with the generation of clean energy, thanks to the installation of a photovoltaic plant with 70 MWp powerwhich allows the desalination plant to be self-sufficient in renewable energy.
