Music sensation Chappell Roan inadvertently got Tonight Present host Jimmy Fallon to repeat “there are gay people” in the audience while appearing on his show Thursday.
During his appearance on The Tonight Present Starring Jimmy Fallon, Chappell, 26, talked about the origins of his catchphrase, “your favorite artist’s favorite artist.”
—You said something at Coachella that I loved. You said, “I’m Chappell Roan and I’m your favorite artist’s favorite artist,” Jimmy began.
Chappell, who recently performed at the Kentuckiana Pleasure Competition, explained that the slogan was a nod to drag queen Sasha Colby. ‘That was a reference to Sasha Colby. And she says,’ she said, drawing applause from several fans in the audience. ‘There are homosexual people here!’ she added.
‘Yeah! Yes, there are gay people here,’ Jimmy repeated, laughing.

‘Sasha Colby said, “I’m your favorite drag queen’s favorite drag queen.” And… it just pierced my heart. “So I thought, ‘I just hope Sasha Colby looks at me one day,’ and that’s why I said it,” Chappell explained.
Fallon also admitted that she Googled Chappell before her performance, prompting the singer to respond: “You didn’t know who I was before?”
‘I just wanted to see what turned up!’ she responded.
Fallon noted that when searching for Chappell, Google suggested, “Did you mean: favorite artist of your favorite artist?”
‘I think it’s fun!’ Fallon said.
‘I didnot do that!’ Chappell said. “It’s this random young guy who works at Google… I know he’s just an assistant saying, “We love her,” he said before imitating a typing motion.
During his appearance, Chappell also performed his new hit song, Good Luck, Babe!
Her appearance on The Tonight Present comes after Chappell, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, broke down in tears while performing on stage in Raleigh, North Carolina, last week.
She had tears streaming down her face as she told the audience, “I guess I just want to be honest with the crowd.” I feel a little bad today because I think my race is going too fast and it’s very difficult to keep up.

Chappell, who says his aesthetic is heavily influenced by drag queens, has been performing music for more than half his life.

The rising artist released his debut album, titled The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess, in 2023 with Island Information.
In early 2024, she was the opening act for Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour and performed at the world-famous Coachella competition and gained popularity.
