Due to the reduction of water within the Cutzamala Systemcaused by the prolonged drought that has been experienced in the country, authorities reported this Friday that it has been decided to carry out a water delivery flow rate adjustment, that will affect the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico.

He Technical Committee for the Operation of Hydraulic Works (CTOOH) determined, taking into account the joint analyzes of the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), the SMexico City Water System (SACMEX) and the Secretariat of Water of the State of Mexico (SAGUACAEM), make a flow adjustment in the block water delivery of the Cutzamala System, from 7.9 cubic meters per second (m³/s) to 6.1 m3 /s, starting at 00:00 on Saturday, June 22.

This reduction responds, according to the CTOOH, to the evolution of storage in the dams of the Cutzamala System, due to the drought, and will be applied proportionally between SACMEX and SAGUA-CAEM by 60 and 40 percent, respectively.

This decision was made to ensure continuity in the supply of water from the Cutzamala System, which supplies 20 percent of the water of the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico.

In the same way, he reported on the permanent leak repair actions and the optimization of the operation based on information platforms specially developed for this.

He Cutzamala System It is one of the largest and most complex water supply systems in the world. Located in Mexico, its main objective is to supply drinking water to Mexico City and the surrounding municipalities of the State of Mexico. This system is made up of a series of dams and systems and, despite this, one of its most important challenges is the sustainable supply of the vital liquid, due to the high demand for water in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico.

The sustainability of the system is constantly being evaluated due to factors such as population growth and climate change.
