Beijing.- With a series of judicial guidelines aimed at staunch “Taiwan independence” separatists, China on Friday revealed a new, precise and legal weapon to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The guidelines on imposing criminal punishments on staunch “Taiwan independence” separatists for carrying out or inciting secession were jointly issued by the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate and the ministries of public security, state security and justice and came into force upon his release.

The guidelines can be considered as an improvement and complement to the country’s Anti-Secession Law. By clarifying the criminal nature of “Taiwan independence” separatist acts, their criminal responsibilities and the procedure for imposing sanctions, the final outcome is established and law enforcement is facilitated. In the long term, it will undoubtedly play an effective role in advancing reunification across the Taiwan Strait.

This move came against a backdrop of rising cross-Strait tensions sparked by repeated separatist attempts by “Taiwan independence” advocates, particularly since the island’s new leader, Lai Ching-te, who maintains a stance A stubborn separatist, she took office in May.

This court document surely constitutes a blow to Lai and his fellow separatists. It allows Chinese courts to try staunch “Taiwan independence” separatists in absentia. In the most serious cases, the convicted person may receive the death penalty.

It also acts as a warning and deterrent to outside forces that would not fail to intervene in Taiwan-related matters. Those found to have colluded with any foreign or foreign institution, organization or individual to carry out or incite secession would receive harsher punishment.

Despite being a harsh action against the separatists, the document draws a clear line between a few stubborn separatists and the rest of the people of Taiwan. Under the influence of the “Taiwan independence” ideology and due to political differences between the two sides, some in Taiwan may have a mistaken understanding of their identities and the nature of cross-Strait relations. They are given the opportunity to free themselves from misunderstandings and become aware of the harmfulness and danger of separatist activities.

For more than 70 years, although the two sides of the Strait have not yet achieved complete reunification, China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity have never been divided.

The historical facts and legal basis that both sides of the Strait belong to one country and the people of both sides of the Strait belong to the Chinese nation have never changed and will never change.

A peaceful and prosperous future for people on both sides of the Strait depends on a strong and reunified nation. To facilitate reunification, separatists must face criminal proceedings.

Great hopes are placed on the people of Taiwan to have a clear mind, weigh the pros and cons, and stay on the right side of history.
