Taiwan Detects 15 Fighter Jets and Six Ships of the Chinese Army in Escalating Tensions

The authorities of Taiwan have reported this Sunday on the detection of 15 fighters and six ships of the Chinese Armed Forces in the vicinity of the island, within the framework of the growing tension between both parties, this was announced by the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense He explained that the presence of these military units was recorded around 6:00 a.m. (local time).

Among the detected aircraft, eight crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the island’s air defense identification zone from the north and southwest. Faced with this situation, the Taiwanese armed forces closely monitored the movement of Chinese ships and fighters and responded accordingly, as reported by the authorities through the X social network.

The situation between China and Taiwan has become increasingly tense since last year, especially following then-US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. This visit was followed by a Taiwanese delegation visiting Washington, exacerbating friction between Beijing and Taipei.

From Beijing, the Chinese authorities have reiterated on numerous occasions that they will not tolerate Taiwan’s independence and do not rule out the use of force to prevent the island’s secession. China has considered Taiwan a province under its sovereignty since 1949, when the forces of the nationalist Kuomintang party moved to the archipelago after being defeated in the civil war by the Chinese Communist Party. Since then, relations between China and Taiwan have remained only at a business and informal level, having been reestablished in the 1980s.

Historical context between China and Taiwan

– 1949: Breaking of ties between China and Taiwan after the Chinese civil war.
– 1980s: Reestablishment of relationships at a business and informal level.
– 2022: Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan and subsequent visit of a Taiwanese delegation to Washington, intensifying tensions.

China’s recent actions in the vicinity of Taiwan reflect a firm stance and a clear warning about the island’s independence, raising international concerns about stability in the Taiwan Strait region.
