The Israeli army said Saturday that its forces violated protocol after tying a wounded Palestinian to the hood of a military vehicle during a raid in Jenin, a city in the northern West Bank.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the incident after a video capturing the moment was shared on social media.
According to an IDF statement, the man had been wounded in an exchange of fire during the raid.
The Palestinian’s relatives explained that after they called an ambulance, the army grabbed him, before tying him to the hood of their jeep and starting the vehicle.
The individual was taken to the Red Crescent where he received medical attention.
The IDF assured that the incident would be investigated.
Witnesses to the event told the news agency Reuters that the man was a local and was identified as Mujahed Azmi.
“This morning [sábado]during anti-terrorist operations to arrest wanted suspects [por el ejército israelí] “In the Wadi Burqin area, terrorists opened fire on IDF troops, who responded with fire,” an IDF statement said.
“During the exchange of fire, one of the suspects was injured and he was arrested.”
“In violation of orders and typical operating procedures, forces took away the suspect while he was tied on top of a vehicle,” the text continues.
The IDF added that: “The conduct of the forces in the video of the incident does not conform to the values of the IDF. The incident will be investigated and dealt with accordingly.”
Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, violence in the West Bank has increased.
The UN assures that at least 480 Palestinians – members of armed groups, attackers and civilians – have been killed in conflict-related incidents in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, ten Israelis, including six members of the security forces, have also died.
