Drew Carey shared that it is “not unusual” for opponents to show up with a little liquid courage, or sometimes something stronger, in their system before starting a game.
“This happens here all the time,” the “The Price is Right” host said. “They will have gummies or I can smell the alcohol on their breath. Not unusual.”
In an interview Monday with TV Insider, Carey recalled some of the strangest and funniest experiences she had with contestants during her 17 years as a game show host. In particular, one participant took a mushroom and introduced himself to the host as a “skating rabbi.”
“Here was a guy who was beating mushrooms. He came with a group of friends. he was incomplete [comedy] boy Later I found out that I went to UCB. [sketch improv theater, United Citizens Brigade] to hang out and they say, ‘Did you see that guy pretending to be a rabbi who skateboards?’ I asked him what he was doing. And he says, ‘I’m a rabbi who skateboards.’ He didn’t think he was going to get elected and he completely tripped,” Carey said.
The skater rabbi himself, officially known as Josh Androsky, later admitted that he was not only addicted to mushrooms, but was also very drunk. He may not have remembered the whole experience, but he certainly wasn’t ashamed of it.
After it came out 12 years ago, Androsky decided to upload the video to YouTube. She captioned the video: “Hello. I’m an idiot and I ate a mushroom, got drunk, then went on ‘The Price is Right’ and lied to Drew Carey’s melted face. (Couldn’t have been nicer).”
