Just as you imagine from its name, A Quiet Place: Day One It is part of the franchise of films in which Emily Blunt and John Krasinski made us feel the true suspense of silence and being alert to any possible noise, something we are not aware of in our daily lives and that feels like a real threat in all three films.
A little context about A silent place
In the first installment of this saga, which hit theaters in 2018, we accompany a family in their attempt to survive the creatures from another planet that came to kill all beings that made the slightest noise. We discover that the aliens are blind but have a keen sense of hearing, so silence is the only way to be safe. Both films take us to a somewhat post-apocalyptic world in which the streets and houses are already empty and the survivors are apparently very few, but how did the aliens arrive and how did they begin to wipe out the human race? Starring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’oJoseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and the most adorable cat actor of all time: Schnitzel; this film shows us the moment when aliens arrived on the planet and landed in one of the noisiest places that can exist: New York City, a feast for these creatures that are guided by sounds.
Unlike previous installments, we can better understand the morphology, movements and ways of acting of the invaders, something that remained a bit in the imagination of the viewers before. Samira, who suffers from a terminal illness, begins the journey with her cat and a stranger, played by Quinn, in search of some kind of personal salvation and survival in the midst of burned buildings and houses, desolate streets, constant stalking, afraid and clearly, of silence.
Unlike others Sci-fi movies with alien invasions in which the protagonists are brave heroes who seek to save humanity, in this film we only know the personal interests of saving themselves and surviving at the beginning of chaos, something that, thinking about it, makes much more sense than the heroic ones. action adventures we saw before. Another reason why it brings us closer to our own humanity is the constant fear of the character played by Joseph Quinnwhom we already have affection for his character of Eddie in ‘Stranger Things’ and who looks scared to death at various moments; also because the main objective of the protagonists is to take care of the cat, although it is the cat who seems to take care of them. These details and some scenes that we will not mention so as not to share spoilers, make it not only a film in which the tension and fear make you hold on to your chair, but it also has touching moments.
This new film had a budget of around 100 million dollars, according to statements from Alex Wolff, another of the protagonists and who had already worked with the director of the film Michael Sarnoski. This is the biggest investment in one of the films in this series and it is evident from the special effects and art. Seeing New York completely destroyed and surrounded by hundreds of giant aliens is not cheap and is achieved very well.
