MEXICO CITY (apro).- Edna Elena Vega Rangel will be the new head of the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), as announced by President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum.

Vega Rangel was appointed as Undersecretary of Territorial and Agrarian Planning of Sedatu by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

She has a doctorate in Sociology with a specialty in Society and Territory from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana unit Azcapotzalco (UAM-A), an institution where she also studied a master’s degree in Metropolitan Planning and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a specialization in Urban Sociology.

She has more than twenty years of experience in public service in the urban development and housing sectors. She has served as Director of Strategic Planning and later as General Director of the Housing Institute of the Federal District, as well as Director of Urban Development in the Iztapalapa district (now a mayor’s office); Director of Economic and Social Development of the Trust for the Historic Center of Mexico City, and Technical Secretary of the Urban Development Commission of the then Legislative Assembly of the Federal District (ALDF).

Edna Elena Vega Rangel is an expert in Urban Development before the government of Mexico City, with refresher courses from the UAM Xochimilco, UNAM, Seduvi, the College of Architects and the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). During 2019, 2020 and 2021 she was awarded the Líderes en Concreto award in the Woman Leader category.

She has served as a tenured professor at the UAM and as a research professor at the Autonomous University of Mexico City (UACM); She has also collaborated on diploma courses for the IPN and the University of Vizcaya, in Nayarit.

He has participated in various publications linked to urban development, housing and public policies.
