Thursday brought news that Anthony Gordon had suffered a bike crash.

The incident happened on Wednesday (26 June) when he was a number of other England players on a bike ride, following the game against Slovenia the night before.

Sky News reported (see below) that Anthony Gordon had on Thursday ‘turned up at training with a sizeable cut on his chin, as well as scrapes on his hands and legs.’

Thankfully no apparent lasting damage was done, as the Newcastle United star was able to train yesterday.

I don’t know about you, but whenever I hear about a famous person having a crash on their bike, only one incident springs to mind…

Honestly, as a kid, Superstars was absolutely the best thing ever.

Back when Kevin Keegan had that crash in 1976, it was class when he just got back on the bike and gave it everything.

So Anthony Gordon, no doubt in this Health and Safety mad world, you and your teammates will now no doubt be banned from doing anything but playing chess in your downtime.

However, when you step back on that pitch for England (and especially Newcastle United…), just evoke the spirit of Kevin Keegan and 1976 (was that really 48 years ago???).

The Newcastle winger made his major tournament debut as a late substitute in the Three Lions’ 0-0 draw with Slovenia on Tuesday.

While the game confirmed England would top Group C, it saw continued criticism of their performances.

However, two days later, the 23-year-old footballer turned up in training with a sizeable cut on his chin, as well as scrapes on his hands and legs.

It emerged that these occurred during a recovery session gone wrong.

Gordon was among a number of players who went on a bike ride on Wednesday, as part of their recovery.

During the ride, he took a tumble and hit the deck at their Blankenhain camp.

England and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi said: “He fell off his bike. The boys went out on a bike ride.

“I actually wasn’t there. I heard about it and I was actually talking to him, but not paying attention to him.

“Then he turned around and I saw that massive gash on his chin.
