06/27/2024, Xalapa, Ver.- The Universidad Veracruzana (UV), through the General Directorate of International Relations (DGRI) and the School for Foreign Students (EEE), held the training workshop on the development of soft skills “Good with yourself, good in professional life ”, in which teachers and students from the academic areas of Humanities, Technology and Health Sciences participated, coming from the five university regions.

The training had as a special guest Faouzia Rejeb, professor at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University, France, creator of the Mashup Culture project, recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Teachers and students from different academic areas participated in the training.

María Fernanda Heredia Téllez, French teacher at the Self-Access Center of the Library and Information Services Unit (USBI), stated that the workshop was born from the need to include soft skills in the students’ educational process, since they are essential to enter the working market.

“Although these skills are innate, they can be developed through practice and interpersonal relationships,” he said.

Celia Cristina Contreras Asturias, head of the EEE, highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaborative work and shared that the organization also supported the leadership of the Commission for Access to Mobility in Latin America of the University Agency of Francophonie (AUF), and the French-speaking spaces RÉFRA-AUF-UV Poza Rica and CNF5.0 AUF-UV Xalapa.

The training was carried out in French and all the projects developed were presented in this language; The aim is for assistant teachers to reproduce what they have learned in the entities where they work.

Faouzia Rejeb stressed the need for young people to express their uniqueness, cohabitate across cultures and respect diversity.

“In France, we welcome students from all over the world, and it is essential that they get out of their bubble, value and learn about other visions in order to appreciate the environment,” he said.

The workshop facilitator confessed that before coming to UV she felt a bit of pressure, because she had never developed training on soft skills in a context other than French.

“However, the results were satisfactory because there are many common points, the attendees showed solidarity and the topic discussed is universal,” he assured.

The professor said that her stay in Xalapa gave her the opportunity to discover the richness of Mexican culture.

“In most university courses, teachers leave aside human issues, which will be essential in the professional development of our students,” he said.

Lucía Imelda Cruz Cárdenas, a language teacher in the Poza Rica-Tuxpan region, applauded this initiative, because although teachers have training in teaching, they rarely have access to information like that provided in the workshop.

“The training flowed very well and the dynamics implemented allowed for great feedback,” he said.
