Washington, Jun 28 (EFE).- While President Joe Biden claims he did “well” in last night’s televised debate with “liar” Donald Trump, the Republican National Committee says the president “embarrassed” the United States and is “completely unfit” to serve in office due to his “cognitive impairment.”

“Donald Trump spent the night talking about himself, his lies, his legal problems, his affairs with a porn star and his golf championships at his own club. What a load of nonsense! Together we can keep him out of the House White,” said Joe Biden in X after finishing the debate held on the private network CNN, the first of the campaign for the presidential elections on November 5.

“Trump is a convicted felon with the morals of a stray cat,” he alleged in another message on the social network. “We are going to beat him again,” he assured.

On the other hand, Michael Whatley, president of the Republican National Committee (RNC), said this Friday in a statement that “the American people know what they just saw: Joe Biden further embarrassed the United States with his performance in the debate” and “he is too weak to serve as commander in chief.

Trump himself posted a short video on his social network Truth with images of Biden’s falls, lapses and hesitations in which he questions whether he is fit to serve another four-year term.

A seemingly weak Biden, facing an aggressive and mocking Trump

Democrat Biden, who at 81 is the oldest president in US history, had a weak performance in the debate against Trump.

On several occasions, he cleared his throat and his voice sounded hoarser and rougher than usual because he has been battling the flu in recent days, a source familiar with the campaign told EFE.

In fact, several Democratic sources quoted by American media have already spoken of “panic” over the president’s hesitant performance, which is putting great pressure on the Democratic campaign ahead of the party convention.

Trump, 78, was more aggressive on the set created by the network in Atlanta without an audience and even mocked his opponent, attacking him with harsh messages. He is a “Manchurian” president, “paid by Beijing,” he said at one point in the discussion.

Biden highlights Trump’s “lies” that accuse him of his “destructive policies”

After the 95-minute meeting ended, Biden’s campaign team issued a statement listing the 50 lies that Democrats say Trump told.

“He lied about the economy. He lied about foreign policy. He lied about his record. He lied about his crimes. He lied about women’s rights. He lied about immigration. He lied about his lies…”, the Democrats said.

He lied “about our soldiers whom he disrespected. He lied about the law enforcement officers attacked by his supporters (at the Capitol). He lied about who he had sex with. He lied about his racism. He lied about our country,” they reiterated.

On the other hand, Republicans stressed that “Biden’s cognitive decline has made him completely unfit to hold office, and his bloodbath with open borders, his destructive economic policies and the intensification of chaos around the world have made the situation worse for all American families.”

“The contrast between President Trump and Biden is clear: it is time to retire Joe Biden once and for all and allow President Trump to make America great again,” they stressed.

Independent candidate Kennedy: Trump and Biden are not so different

Earlier, independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who did not participate in the debate, announced what he thought the meeting would contain: “insults, accusations and culture war questions, but no discussion of most of the issues that matter to Americans. That’s because, ultimately, Trump and Biden are not so different.”

“Both represent corporations, private equity firms, pharmaceutical companies and the military-industrial complex, whose interests determine what they can talk about,” he said.

Most analysts consider, however, that the debate between the two politicians, whose candidacies have yet to be confirmed by their respective parties and who are currently technically tied in terms of voting intention, has not brought any surprises. EFE
