AC Milan and Newcastle United have been in discussions over possible deals in the summer transfer window, and a report has claimed that Malick Thiaw’s name is of interest.

The German had a difficult season in 2023-24 largely due to a rather serious injury towards the end of the last calendar year which took some time to recover from, and he looked rusty when he did eventually return.

However, Newcastle believe he would be a good fit for the Premier League with his size and physicality. Milan still thinks there is plenty of room for improvement, and that is why they want at least €30m to sell even if they are not opposed to the idea of cashing in.

As things stand though the 22-year-old would be the starting center-back in Paulo Fonseca’s defense alongside Fikayo Tomori, so if he were to depart it would have to be for the right price and a replacement would almost certainly be needed.

Newcastle, at the moment, have to think about selling. The limits of the ‘Profit and Sustainability Regulations’ (PSR) – a sort of internal Financial Fair Play in the Premier League – require them to sell players for a total of €40m pounds by 30 June. Otherwise, penalties and transfer bans could follow.

Thus, the Magpies are busy selling young Gambian forward Yankuba Minteh, fresh from a loan at PSV Eindhoven. Once they have completed exits they can turn to Thiaw, while the possible inclusion of Kieran Trippier in the operation has not been confirmed at the moment.
