The Kremlin declined this Friday to comment on the televised debate between the president of the United States, Joe Biden, and the Republican candidate for the White House, former president Donald Trump, arguing that it is “an internal matter” of the North American country. “We are not going to value the debate, in any way. It is an internal matter of the United States. It is the electoral campaign in the United States,” said the spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dimitri Peskov, although he stressed that Moscow is analyzing the statements made by both during the face to face. Thus, he explained that the Russian authorities “have seen the media reports about the debate.” “We analyze them closely, but it is an internal matter of the United States,” he reiterated, before emphasizing that the issue is not one of the priorities of Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I don’t think anyone expects the Russian president to set an alarm to wake up in the morning to watch a debate in the United States. It’s not an event on our agenda,” he said. “We have many really important and relevant issues for the country. Those are the issues that the president addresses,” he argued. Peskov has also pointed out that Russia “has never interfered in electoral campaigns in the United States”, despite criticism and complaints from Washington in this regard during the last campaigns in the North American country. “We are not going to do it this time either,” he concluded, according to the Russian news agency Interfax.
