Biden performed poorly in the debate with Trump and Democrats are already looking for a replacement

The first presidential debate for the November 5 election in the United States took place on Thursday night.

From Atlanta and with official television by CNN, in charge of organizing the event above the United States Presidential Debates Commission, Joe Biden and Donald Trump starred in the first discussion with poor individual performance, which also had relevant repercussions.

President Biden’s health became the main controversy of the evening. The already questioned condition of the 81-year-old man reached its peak in the face to face with the Republican representative, shaking his position as a candidate in the Democratic Party.

With peculiar gestures and movements, the American president stammered on several occasions. One of them stood out for Trump’s response, who insisted on the state of health of his rival and said that “he had not understood what he said and perhaps he himself did not either.”

The Democratic internal party is already spreading rumors of the possibility of lowering Biden, who won his position by votes, and imposing a new candidate. David Axelrod, former advisor to Barack Obama, declared that it is “time to talk about an open convention and a new Democratic candidate.”

John King, CNN’s main national correspondent, took this line and assured that after Biden’s performance in the debate, senior Democratic officials are considering going to the White House and publicly asking that he withdraw from the race.

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace went further, listing three names rumored to be Joe Biden’s replacements: Gavin Newsom, Michelle Obama, or Kamala Harris.

Newsom is the current governor of the state of California and recently criticized Trump. Michelle’s case is particular since certain statements by people close to the former president have questioned the president’s role. The White House doctor during Barack’s administration had requested a narcolemic test prior to the debate. Kamala Harris’s name logically enters as she is the vice president.

The poor performance that was overshadowed by Biden’s condition, but which was not without its flaws, was that of Donald Trump. The first convicted ex-president resorted to a series of fallacies and the use of disinformation.

Trump has repeatedly said that if he loses in November, he would not accept the election result. However, he distanced himself from the storming of the Capitol after the last election.

The Republican provided misleading statements regarding immigrants and employment. He also provided false information about the Paris agreement and about Iran’s financing of Hamas.

These last points that require detail did not weigh as much as the direct impact of Biden’s image. According to a CNN poll, 67% of debate viewers believe Trump outperformed Biden. Although it is not a representative vote at all as it only has 565 registered voters, it exceeds the previous 55%.
