The Government has decided to postpone the planned increases in electricity and gas rates for the month of July, as confirmed by the Ministry of Economy. This measure will mean that prices will remain frozen for at least a month. The minister Luis Caputo has postponed the monthly adjustment that was linked to a formula for estimating future inflation, which has not yet been designed.

This decision comes at a time when private inflation estimates have shown a rebound in June, which would interrupt the slowdown trend registered during the year. After 4.2% inflation in May, in June prices already showed a rebound of 5.5%, according to private reports.

In addition, the Ministry of Finance reported that Caputo also took into account the seasonal component. During the winter, gas consumption is usually higher, resulting in higher payments by users. Therefore, this freeze has halted last month’s increases, which ranged between 9% and 33% for gas and between 23% and 156% for electricity.
