As Democrats privately discuss the possibility of replacing Joe Biden as presidential candidate after his “disappointing” performance in the debate with Donald Trump, the president said this Friday that “will not abandon” the race and he is going to stay another four years in the White House.

Biden “will not drop out” of 2024 race, said the campaign spokesperson from the Democrat, Seth Schuster, as reported by The Hill. Biden is “not going to give up.”

But Democrats are quietly discussing the possibility of replacing Biden on the ticket after his disappointing performance in Thursday night’s debate in Atlanta with former President Trump, who entered the matchup with a four-point lead over the president.

This was reported by the American media, according to which among the Democratic ranks pressure is mounting on Biden to drop out of the race.

The president’s vacillating and sometimes confusing stance has fueled rumors of a possible replacement by the Democratic Party.

“I’m very worried”, confesses a Democratic congressman to the Wall Street Journal, hoping that “it is not too late to replace him”, taking into account that the elections will be on November 5.

“He can’t win”

“Parties exist to win and the man who is on stage with Trump can’t win. This fear will increase calls for him to step aside,” another Democrat added to the New York Times.

Even influential New York Times columnist Thomas L. Friedman said that “Joe Biden is a good man and a good president,” but “he should withdraw from the presidential race” to prevent Donald Trump from returning to the White House, because he is “a malicious man” and was “a mean president.”

Biden, however, and despite the fact that in the debate he was seen lost and confusedsaid he believed he did well in the television duel against Trump, after widespread criticism that his performance was unconvincing.

“I think we did well,” Biden said to reporters as he stopped at a restaurant in Atlanta around midnight for a post-debate meal.

“Of course he’s not going to give up,” Biden campaign spokesman Seth Schuster told The Hill.

A CNN poll showed that 67% of voters believe the Republican won the debate, compared to 33% for Biden, whose candidacy was already in doubt due to the president’s 81 years, and who if he wins re-election He would take office in January 2025 at 82.

The president is only three years older than Trump, who nevertheless showed a more energetic and confident performance in the debate.
