A hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. this Friday to review precautionary measures on the assets of the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jaduewith which plaintiffs and the CDE seek to prevent the communal authority from alienating their assets.
But it was not only that hearing, which was postponed until next Wednesday, that marked the day, since the mayor, who has been in preventive detention for 26 days, turned 57 this Friday.
The anniversary of the mayor of Recoleta was marked with the visit to Capitán Yáber of different representatives of the Communist Party (PC), family members and his partner, Anjuli Tosteswho came to give support -and in a way- celebrate the communist militant, for which they even brought a cake.
In addition to the celebrations for his 57th birthday, the mayor also received a visit in the afternoon from his new lawyer, Juan Carlos Manríquez. He will lead the defense team along with the person who has already represented him in the case, the lawyer Ramón Sepúlveda.
Upon his departure, the professional also confirmed that they will begin “actions for review (of the precautionary measure) in the court of guarantee, in other courts and also at the international level.”
Manríquez explained that a “plural team” of lawyers will be formed, which will also be made up of Sepúlveda, in addition to Hugo Gutiérrez, who will be in charge of political matters. For his part, the former national prosecutor Sabas Chahuán will be the one who advises the criminal strategy, and the Brazilian Tostes – the mayor’s partner and also a lawyer – will be in charge of coordinating international legal support.
Brazilian lawyers who achieved the freedom of the current President of Brazil could participate in that team, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvawho was previously imprisoned for corruption.
Jadue’s defense is under pressure from the time that has passed since he was in preventive detention. That is why they will seek to reverse this situation before the 45 days that the law stipulates as the maximum period in which a municipal authority can be out of office before being dismissed are up.
For the same, International bodies will be called upon to ensure that the popular choice is respected in which he was elected mayor of Recoleta.
This was confirmed by Gutiérrez, who assured that a precautionary measure will be presented to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in favor of Jadue, since, in the lawyer’s opinion, “the resolutions that have been issued by the Chilean justice system What they are trying to do is for him to stop being mayor of Recoleta, attacking popular sovereignty.”
