Pedro: Saint Peter the Apostle, mentioned frequently in the New Testament, was a fisherman from Bethsaida who moved to Capernaum, where he was called by Jesus to be a “fisher of men.” Jesus named him the rock on which he would build his Church, giving him authority as the first Pope, a role he exercised with integrity, culminating in his martyrdom in Rome under Nero around the year 67. His remains rest under the main altar of the Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican.
Pablo: He was a fervent persecutor of Christians until Christ completely transformed him, leading him to say “it is no longer I who live, it is Christ who lives in me.” He wrote 13 New Testament letters, exhorting and guiding Gentile communities in Christian faith and doctrine. Paul, after a life of arduous missionary work and facing numerous adversities, was martyred in Rome, and his letters, inspired by the Holy Spirit, are part of divine revelation.
Raimundo Luli: Born in Mallorca in the 13th century, he was a Catalan thinker and theologian known for his vast erudition and his philosophical and mystical works. His life was marked by the tireless search for truth and the spread of Christianity.
Emma de Gurk: was an Austrian noblewoman of the 11th century who founded the monastery of Gurk after the tragic death of her husband and sons in a miners’ riot. She devoted her life to charity and religion, founding several religious houses. Recognized as a saint, she was canonized by the Holy See in 1938.
Today is also celebrated the name day of Siro of Genoa and Benedicta of Cadiz.
