The veteran of the famous animated series promises that “we do not kill the character lightly”

These days there has been a lot of talk about ‘The Simpsons’ because of the enormous surprise that was the death of Larry, a character who was in the series since its first episode. This is by no means the first time that a character from ‘The Simpsons’ has lost their life., but that hasn’t stopped a few fans from complaining about it. Well, the producer of the series has released a statement apologizing for this.

“We didn’t kill the character lightly”

Has been Tim Longwho participates as producer and scriptwriter in the series – although the episode in question is signed by John Frink– since 1999, who explained the decision to kill one of the regulars at Moe’s bar with an email sent to Variety in which he highlights the following:

I’m sorry if some fans are upset, but we really wanted to use Larry’s death as a way to show that even the most peripheral people in our lives have dignity and value, and that we really shouldn’t take anyone for granted.

Long also points out that “To me, it’s very appropriate that some fans take Larry’s death as personally as Homer and his friends. It’s just a measure of how much the series continues to mean to people. I mean, no one would have been mad if the Flintstones had killed the Great Gazú. In any case, they would have been delighted“.

Besides, Long wants to make it clear that it was not a decision they made lightly.although he insists on apologizing to those followers of the series who are upset with what happened:

The episode is about many things, but above all the fear of death. The Simpsons characters have always had unusually rich emotional lives, and this episode is really about their anxiety about ‘what comes next’ (and I don’t mean ‘Krapopolis’). What I find bittersweet about this episode is that it took Larry’s death for Homer and his friends to appreciate him, and appreciate each other.

Again, we’re sorry if anyone is upset about Larry’s disappearance – we certainly didn’t kill off the character lightly. But I also have to point out that Larry was never really one of the breakout stars of the series. I don’t remember a kid wearing a Larry t-shirt or dancing to “Lone Drunk Larry.” It would have been nice if they did.
