If you too can’t hear the word “Pivot!” without laughing it’s for a reason
It is possible that because “Pivot!” nothing comes to you in your memories about Friendsbut that’s because, with the dubbing, it was translated as “Turn it over!”, since the word does not exist in Spanish. That doesn’t stop it from being hilarious, of course: the fifth season, which is generally filled with some of the best episodes of the seriesoffered, in the chapter The one with the policeman, a scene that has gone down in comedy history: Rachel, Chandler and Ross climbing an armchair up an infernal staircase.

By then, Friends It had already become an international phenomenon, but the writers and actors were far from settling in, offering great dialogue, unique jokes, and fabulous character dynamics. In one of the plots, Phoebe found herself with a police badge (which would lead her to meet Gary), in another Joey has dreams of love with Monica and, finally, in the last one, Ross was trying to carry a couch to his house.
But no matter how many times they tried: David Schwimmer said “Pivot!” in such a particular way that they couldn’t help but laugh all the time, thus becoming the most difficult scene to film in the history of the series. In the end, luckily, they managed it, holding back their laughter as best they could.
By the way, there is a math that managed to explain how, in the end, they managed to get the sofa to Ross’s house: using the Pythagorean theorem applied to the measurements of the sofa in a vertical position and the dimensions of the stairs. Apparently it was possible and, according to the math, it was much easier than Ross and company made it seem. Fewer pivots and more dunks.
