from the sixth episode of ‘Doctor Who’.

‘Doctor Who’ continues to experience firsts despite being the longest-running English series in history. Some, like the one we are here to talk about today, have taken too long to arrive. But you know the saying: Better late than never.

The episode broadcast on Saturday, June 8, 2024 will be difficult to forget for the LGTB+ audience who love the series, because in it we were able to see the first kiss between two men since it premiered in 1963. It starred Ncuti Gatwa, the new Time Lord, and Jonathan Groff, who played the bounty hunter Rogue.

In the episode, the sixth of the season, the Doctor travels to 1813, in the middle of the British Regency, where he has to investigate a mysterious multiple murder at a party. To do this he will have the help of Rogue, whom the Time Lord does not trust at first. Nevertheless, between piques and mutual aid, the connection between them becomes greater. In the end, Rogue must sacrifice herself to save the world, at which point she decides to succumb to the sexual tension between them and kiss the Doctor.

A historic season

‘Doctor Who’ has always been considered a modern series. However, there were some barriers that he had never dared to break until this last season, where we are experiencing many ‘first times’ that we talked about before. Besides the first gay kiss, Ncuti Gatwa has the honor of being the first black Doctor. And also the first openly gay in real life.

Additionally, in recent months the series has featured actress Yasmin Finney in the role of Rose, the first trans character in ‘Doctor Who’. And although there was an attempted hate campaign by the most radical sectors, they have not been able to stop the social advance of the series in recent times. I hope it continues like this.
